Faculty and Clinical Staff

The medical faculty consists of five academic attending-level pediatric surgeons, one of whom serves as the Surgeon-in-Chief at Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital, and the Clinical Fellow. (See Faculty on the home page for biographies and CV’s). The Pediatric Surgery team is completed with advanced practice nurses (APRN). Surgical Residents rotate through Pediatric Surgery as part of their Department of Surgery training.

Facilities

Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital, dedicated in 1993, is topped with a heliport with direct access to the Pediatric Emergency Department and Pediatric Operating Center. Custom built for children, the hospital comprises a pediatric-only emergency department, recently updated operating center, diagnostic imaging, a multi-disciplinary specialty outpatient clinic, a 50+ bed newborn intensive care unit, a pediatric intensive care unit, and many other inpatient units. The bespoke design and comforts of these facilities are pleasing to both children and families as well as enhancing our ability to focus fully on the developmental, physical, and emotional needs of our young patients.

Volume

Each year, more than 2400 children are seen in the outpatient Pediatric Specialty Clinic and 1100 pediatric surgical operations (300 of which are for infants less than one year of age) are performed. In addition, Pediatric Surgery is involved in the care of almost 400 pediatric trauma patients, some of whom arrive at the hospital with extremely serious injuries.
