Yale Plastic Surgery is a group of world-class surgeons who specialize in the most complex and delicate of operations: the reconstruction of a child’s face and head, the reassembly of a hand or wrist after injury, the realignment of a feature gone awry, the rebuilding of a body battered by cancer or wound. The faculty also emphasize state of the art management of the cosmetic concerns of patients. Yale Plastic Surgery faculty and surgeons-in-training regularly travel to developing countries throughout the world to perform free reconstructive surgical care for congenital, traumatic and cancer- induced deformities for those who cannot afford treatment.
Yale Craniofacial Program offers surgical treatment for craniofacial congenital, traumatic, tumor, and vascular anomalies by specialists from 18 clinical services within Yale. Dr. Persing (director) manage the program, with the assistance of a patient care coordinator.
Hand and Microsurgery Program, under J. Grant Thomson, M.D., and Michael Matthew offers expertise in replantation, microvascular reconstruction, and free flap surgical techniques. The Hand and Wrist Program treats traumatic, congenital, and degenerative conditions involving the hand, wrist, and the nervous system of the arm. One ACGME accredited fellow per year is accepted into the training program.
Cosmetic Surgery. The cosmetic center focuses on providing the most advanced, effective and safe cosmetic procedures. Thoughtful analysis, new as well as traditional surgical approaches are offered. Our faculty have pioneered and developed some of the most effective treatments in body contouring and aesthetic facial surgery available. Adjunctive procedures such as soft tissue fillers, laser and wrinkle removers are also offered. The program, in addition to a private cosmetic service, also offers a residents cosmetic service which allows the full range of cosmetic procedures at reduced costs. The initial evaluation on this service has no professional fee associated with it.
The Reconstructive Surgery Team provides facial and body enhancement, especially for those patients seeking reconstructive surgery for breast cancer, head and neck cancer, melanoma, and breast reduction.
Our doctors see patients at Yale Physicians Building; perform operations at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Temple Medical Center, Shoreline and the Veterans Administration Medical Center; train students, residents and breast reconstruction fellows; and, conduct research into, among other topics, the formation of the bones of the face and the pathophysiology of flap failures.
