Endovascular Intervention to Leg Arteries

At Yale Vascular Surgery, our nationally and internationally renowned surgeons are highly skilled at performing even the most advanced surgical techniques for both common and complex vascular conditions, such as aneurysms.

Endovascular intervention is a minimally invasive procedure that is used to treat aneurysms in leg arteries. An aneurysm is a bulge in an area of an artery that has been weakened due to certain disease processes. Aneurysms may rupture and cause life-threatening internal bleeding.

In endovascular intervention, the surgeon inserts a catheter into an artery in the groin area or through the skin and threads it to the area of the artery affected by the aneurysm. A stent graft, which is a mesh tube, is placed in the area of the weakness and it expands against the wall of the artery to prevent the aneurysm from rupturing, to prevent the risk of a blood clot from moving to and blocking the leg arteries, and to avoid blockage of the knee artery.
